Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled tasks in building construction and maintenance requiring the application of general knowledge of maintenance and repairs techniques, material, tool, and equipment; conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and equipment; performs required routine preventative maintenance and repair activities; performs routine and emergency repairs including correcting minor electrical malfunctions; repairs basic plumbing fixtures, pipes, and fittings, repairs and replaces light fixtures; repairs doors and locks, changes filters, belts and hoses; assists in the preparation of various building components and systems for trades units and/or contractors; disassembles and installs equipment and fixtures; performs minor repairs to interior and exterior walls, ceilings, floors, and other building surfaces; operates and ensures operational readiness and safety of tools, equipment and building component; cleans work area upon completion of projects.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred.


Minimum three (3) years related work experience required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of a variety of building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade area where assigned; working knowledge and skilled in the use of tools and equipment of the trades; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to complete logs, work order forms and prepare reports; to make adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools supplies, and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.

Conditions of Employment

As an essential employee, candidate must report for duty for emergency. Candidates must have a valid Maryland Non-Commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license. Background checks are conducted on all selected candidates.
